Little Egret catching a Common Darter (c) James Wainscoat
I might be going mad but that darter that the egret is feeding on looks a bit like Red-veined - seems to be red venatiom on the wings; thorax and abdomen look quite good too…thoughts?
James has indicated he has no more photos so this will remain unproven. I think it is not unusual for Common Darters to show some colouration on the wings reminescent of RVD.

ReplyDeleteHmm. I see what you mean. I will ask James if he has any more photos.

ReplyDeleteThanks Steve. Interested to know. Get your point on wing colouration, but the more I look at the thorax the better it looks…
ReplyDeleteSorry Leo but I can't accept what would probably be the first mature RVD for Oxon on the basis of this photo. One that got away!
DeleteAbsolutely - hopefully there will be one in the not too distant future!
